The film 2012 was called "cheesy" by critics and scored a 37% out of 100% on the Tomatometer from Rotten Tomatoes.com, declaring the movie "Rotten". Despite all of the negativity toward the film, I felt I had to develop my own opinion about it. The film was about two and a half hours of intense action and impressive special effects.

The film centers on how the Mayan calendar suggests the end of the world taking place on December 21, 2012. Jackson Curtis (John Cusack), his ex-wife Kate (Amanda Peet), and their two children, along with Kate's boyfriend endure massive earthquakes, tidal waves, and super volcanoes.

For me, this film was everything I wanted: top-notch special effects, a good story, and a heartstring tug. This film isn't Academy Award worthy for acting, but it sure would be a good contender for technical achievement. I believe director Roland Emmerich, who also directed disaster flicks Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, had the sole intent of making this film completely thrilling and entertaining visually. I say see this movie if you are looking for a good time at the movies.
